Thailand Visa Overstay

One of the most common cases occurring to tourists and foreign residents in Thailand is a visa overstay.

Overstaying refers to remaining in Thailand beyond the date stamped in your passport or on your particular visa.

If a Non Thai national has remained in Thailand for a long period of time past their visa expiration date, it will only be a matter of time before this offense comes to light. Most contact with government officials in Thailand requires showing a passport. In public areas, police in Thailand are permitted to stop non Thai nationals at any time and ask to see their passport. If it is discovered someone is staying in Thailand illegally, they may be arrested, fine and/imprisoned and deported.
